FREDERIKSGADE42|food & wine

I have been working with Christian Bøjlund, the owner of FREDERIKSGADE42 since 2015 as a digital consultant, though I named myself the Digital Janitor of the restaurant. My work here is done with almost no budget, using free and open source services.

STARTET FROM THE BOTTOM

We met in the Kitchen at St. Pauls Apothek. Christian Bøjlund as part-owner and headchef with me working behind him as the dishwasher. I was studying digital design and doing all kinds of wierd-ass-digital-art projects. One year later Christian asked me to help him with the digital, communicative and graphic challenges starting his new restaurant; FREDERIKSGADE42|mad & vin.

Whilst Christian prepared the restaurant, I sat in the corner with my laptop creating the website for the launch in January 2015. I did this while doing my bachelor in Digital Design at Aarhus University.

CREATING AND MAINTANING THE WEBSITE

The website is constantly functioning as a prototype. We have not been afraid of trying out new functions or designs - and it has been a great succes so far.

Websites are one of the most important channels for restaurants. Around 85% percentage of guests are using websites to book table.

I create all content on the website, experiment with UX, doing analytics and maintaining SEO and search rankings.

WE CREATED THE FUTURE OF KITCHENS

I helped the restaurant setting up their digital infrastructure with websites, mail, calendars etc. One of the major problems was, that computers do not belong in the kitchen - and most chefs do not want to spend time on a computer - but today even chefs have to use a computer for logistics etc.

The solution to this? I bought a recycled old dell laptop and bought a touch-screen TV. We mounted all of it in a “baby chancing table”. Costs? about 3000 DKK (under half the price of an iPad). Within 2 days we had a perfect setup in the kitchen. The chefs still use it today. YAY!!!

(We use Google Suite for this).

MANAGING SOCIAL MEDIA

I gave myself the working title of 'Digital Janitor', cleaning the website, setting up emails, setting up menu cards, and so on. This also included managing the social medias as facebook and instagram. I believe in sympathetic and empathic communication with high quality content. That's how I have been managing the social medias so far. I see myself as a dealer between what the restaurant wants to tell the customer and what the customer really wants to hear.

Today it is Cecile Juel Ildvad that runs the social media, while i am working on other projects.

LOGO & IDENTITY

I help Christian bring his digital and creative ideas to life. Together with photographer Steven Biccard, we created this photo, which quickly became the visual identity of FREDERIKSGADE42. It visualises the experience of eating there, simple as that.

I went to graphic designer Malene Sliphaber to get help creating the logo for FREDERIKSGADE42. We started with a circular logo - Christian and the Staff had difficulties implementing the circular logo, so I redesigned it to this.

PORTOBELLO BURGER

Find the Portobello burger and potatoe-truffel-fries at Cluster Square when Aarhus Festuge kicks in. FREDERIKSGADE42 is collaborating with Culture Works. I did the visual identity for the Portobello Burger stand at Cluster Square.

DOCUMENTING PROJECTS

Christian is doing a lot of projects through the restaurant. That's why we agreed to make a site dedicated to documenting all of the initiatives and projects involving FREDERIKSGADE42.
